UPMC Partners with Irish Sporting Organisations to deliver Nationwide ImPACT Concussion Testing
New partnership brings ImPACT Applications’ state of the art, scientifically proven concussion assessment tools to 32 counties across Ireland.
UPMC, a leading healthcare provider, has partnered with sporting organisations in Ireland to provide nationwide ImPACT testing. ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computerised neurocognitive assessment tool used to evaluate the effects of a concussion.
The partnership with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Ladies Gaelic Football Association, The Camogie Association, and the Gaelic Players Association (GPA), allows UPMC to provide ImPACT baseline testing remotely to players across 32 counties in Ireland. The testing will be conducted by certified ImPACT specialists and will provide players with an objective measure of their brain health and cognitive functioning in a normal state. Then, if they suffer a head injury, post-injury tests will be taken to assess the degree of concussion.
The ImPACT testing will be available to athletes in Ireland through UPMC’s network of healthcare providers. Tests will be taken remotely and in UPMC clinics. UPMC will also provide educational materials to athletes and their families about the importance of concussion management and the risks associated with returning to play too soon.
