ImPACT Applications Partners with University Hospitals Case Medical Center to Offer Comprehensive Concussion Management Program

ImPACT Applications, Inc., developer of the ImPACT© Test and ImPACT Concussion Management Model, has entered into a partnership with University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center to improve concussion prevention, identification and treatment for athletes and individuals in the Cleveland area.

UH, located in Cleveland, Ohio, has begun using ImPACT neurocognitive baseline and post-injury testing in all schools that use UH physicians and/or athletic trainers. As part of the implementation, the UH clinical team will participate in intensive training on ImPACT test administration and the application of all aspects of ImPACT’s Concussion Management Model. UH is working toward having 10 physicians as Certified ImPACT Consultants (CICs) and 10 ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainers (ITATs), in recognition of the training and education they will receive.

“As in many hospitals across the country, the number of concussions treated at UH continues to rise,” says Anthony Furlan, MD, Chairman of Neurology and Co-director of the Neurological Institute at UH Case Medical Center. “As part of our commitment to quality, safety and best practices in patient care, we want to ensure the patients we serve receive the proper clinical assessment and specialty care after a concussion.”

As the official healthcare provider of the Cleveland Browns, UH will provide baseline and post-injury testing for a large number of professional athletes, school teams and local sports organizations. “These tests will greatly assist our specialists and athletic trainers in neurology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, and sports medicine in gathering the data to make assessments and treatment plans should student athletes have a head injury on the field or court,” said Christopher Bailey, PhD, Director of the Concussion Program for the UH Neurological Institute.

“We are honored to work with the staff of University Hospitals and proud to provide them with the best-in-class concussion management tools,” says Michael Wahlster, chief executive officer of ImPACT Applications.
