Setting Up a District-Wide Concussion Protocol With Limited Resources

Fort Smith Public Schools wanted to improve their existing concussion protocol with more complete, objective data that would assist their athletic trainers in the return to play protocol. With just 2 athletic trainers in charge of the concussion protocol for the 6 schools, it was also a necessity that the tools be time-saving and easy to implement.

Importance of Objective Data

Fort Smith Public Schools wanted a tool that would not only provide objective data to back up athletic trainers’ clinical judgement, but also help communicate with students, parents, coaches, and other stakeholders about why certain treatment decisions were being made based on objective data. That’s why they chose ImPACT.

Now parents are assured that their children get proper concussion care, and coaches follow return to play guidelines knowing it’s in the athlete’s best interest.

Saving Time With At-Home Baseline Testing

Because Sherry is responsible for more than 1200 student athletes across 3 different schools, she needed to save time without compromising the level of care for student athletes. She was able to do so with FDA cleared, at-home ImPACT baseline testing that she can easily administer in the Customer Center and track each student athlete’s test status in one place.

“One challenge with in-person group baseline testing is finding a classroom and coordinating a time that works for myself, the teacher, and the athletes. Being able to go online and have students complete their ImPACT Baseline Test from home is really helping me.”
